Last year during the height of a bitterly divisive presidential campaign, a friend told me I was “wasting” my vote, that this election was just too important. As we talked he shared that he actually agreed with much of what the Libertarian party is about but couldn’t pull the trigger on voting for a Libertarian candidate until the party got “bigger” and “more mainstream”. He told me we should focus on a grassroots organization at the local level and build from there. Interestingly enough, that’s exactly what the Libertarian Party of Ohio and its Hamilton County affiliate are working to do, despite efforts by the major parties to keep you from hearing new voices and ideas.
On Friday January 8, 2021 Mike Mains and I visited the Hamilton County BOE to pull petitions to run as Libertarians for city council. On Friday January 15, after gathering more than enough signatures on each of our petitions, we were notified by the Hamilton County Board of Elections that Secretary of State, Frank LaRose had issued Advisory 2021-01. This advisory prevents Mike and I from running as Libertarians.
We want to thank all of the Harrison voters that signed our Libertarian petitions and regret that we will be contacting you in the near future to sign another ballot petition for us. We will be running for city council this fall, but unfortunately not with the party that most closely represents our political views.
