By the Numbers

The Board of Elections has a wealth of information available on their web site.  When you’re a left-brained, analytical sort of person you can’t help but crunch the numbers.

As of this writing there are 7,904 registered voters in Harrison, though that number may change as there is still a week left to register to vote.  A few more than 15% are Republicans, 1,200 to be exact.  A bit less than 3% are Democrats, a total of 220.  There are 6 registered members of the Green Party (less than 1/10 of a percent).  That leaves 6,478 (82%) non-party voters.

In the last presidential election Harrison voters went 76% Republican to 19% Democrat.

What does this mean?  Well the first thing it tells you is that I have a head for numbers and detailed analysis, exactly the kind of person we need on city council.  What’s more important is what this tells us about the people of Harrison.  Far and away the vast majority of us are not big on political party but when push comes to shove we have a decidedly conservative mindset.  It’s incredibly encouraging to see we’re more interested in what a candidate has to offer than whether there’s a (R) or a (D) after their name.

As an independent candidate I’m proud to be part of this silent majority.  When you cast your ballot on November 5th, let people see what really matters to you.  There’s a candidate on your ballot who thinks and acts just like you and like you I don’t like the idea of being beholden to a political party.  The choice is easy, vote Combs for Council!
