A couple weeks ago Stacie and I went to the Coffee Peddlar for a nice Saturday morning coffee. On the way into The District we were behind a county engineer’s truck repainting lines. That’s a small bit of irony since less than 48 hours later Harrison Avenue was going to be ground down and repaved.
Is this a big deal? Not really. It kind of made me chuckle and given the number of lane-miles they painted that day the half mile stretch through downtown Harrison is a drop in the bucket. I don’t see this as a big failure or a sign of dysfunction on anybody’s part. After all a couple years ago they repaved State Street, a mammoth task that involved collaboration between city, county and state governments on both sides of the border.
It is, however, a great example of why its so important (and sometimes so hard) for governments to collaborate and communicate. Our city needs our new councilmen and councilwomen to have a firm grasp of the challenges before us and a willingness to work collaboratively with neighboring townships, county and state governments. This election is crucial to keeping us on the right path.
