Civic Groups Aplenty

Last week I had the opportunity to sit in on the Greater Harrison Rotary’s meeting.  I came away from that meeting amazed by the great work the Rotary is doing.  They handed out several scholarships, worked on plans for their upcoming car show and began planning an event for the fall.  The room was packed with people who genuinely care about making this community and really the world a better place.  And they’re not alone.

The Kiwanis in Harrison are an active group.  The American Legion and other veterans groups are a fixture at many council meetings making contributions to the Mayor’s Fund and other worth causes.  We have groups from most every church in town working on social issues.  I’m sure I’m leaving someone out but you get the picture.

It’s easy to sit back and wait for government to solve our problems.  I’m happy that Harrison folks don’t think or act that way.
